- Jason stops playing the blues, and starts rummaging around in his satchel.
-
- "OK, I know you're in there somewhere. Come out!" There's a scurrying
- sound, as if something alive is in the satchel, darting about and playfully
- avoiding Jason's questing hand. Finally he shouts "Gotcha!" and hauls out a
- rather distraught looking cyber-rat rigger remote.
-
- The rat looks at him and says "What do you think you're doing? I work for
- Argus, not for you." Jason smiles. "I'm sure he won't mind a bit. Argus has
- plenty of rigger remotes, and I need one with broadcast capability. You're
- drafted." He lays the rat on it's back on the table, and says "Now, this
- won't hurt a bit."
-
- After pressing a hidden switch, the cyber-rat stops struggling. A small
- access door opens on it's tummy, and Jason makes a few adjustments to the
- circuitry, using a small set of tools he had clipped to his belt. After
- about a minute's fiddling, he seals the hatch, and reactivates the remote.
-
- It rolls over and looks at Jason, then it looks around the room. Jason's
- voice comes from the cyber-rat now. "There! That did it. I've set this
- remote to relay sights and sounds to me via the Matrix. Now I can see at
- least -some- of what's going on here!" The rat jumps off the table, and
- scurries over to the bar. It says politely "Excuse me, pardon me miss, ah,
- pardon me." as it navigates the crowded floor. It climbs right up the side
- of the bar, and settles down quietly on one end, where it has a good view
- of the room.
-
- Jason sighs. "Well folx, I have a -partial- solution. Since I can post, but
- can't see or hear your posts, I'm now reading the posts via a different
- source. I can get read-only access to alt.callahans via the GOPHER server
- at Michigan State University. I -think- I can access that from home too,
- but I'll have to experiment tonight. There seems to be at least a one-day
- time-lag doing it this way, and the interface is unfamiliar, but it works.
- I'll catch up on the recent posts at lunch. See ya later!"
-
- Hugs,
- Jason
