  24. Equally surprising that it ever was allowed on network TV at
  25. all, since the media culture and those selfsame mavens of
  26. network norms are what gets skewered, most the time.  And
  27. believe me, my father worked in TV---it's not far off reality!

  29. As far as aging well---um, yes, it really IS twenty minutes
  30. into the future, and the present is looking more like a Max
  31. Headroom plot all the time.  Every time I watch it, I get a
  32. little weirded out, because it's all seeming a little too
  33. close to being reality.  Especially when reality is getting
  34. far too close to a cyberpunk nightmare, as time goes on,
  35. anyway.  Every time I turn on network TV, Max Headroom comes
  36. back...  The technology is only about five minutes into the
  37. future, now, and I suppose that soon Max and Edison and their
  38. lot will still be topical, but their network will be sort of 
  39. like an old newspaper office, using elder technology while the 
  40. rest of the world moves on.  That, however, can be picturesque in 
  41. itself, like a detective novel sort of thing...

  43. By the way, has anyone noticed how all the cyberpunk universes
  44. seem to be converging, and starting to be the *same* cyberpunk
  45. universe?  And how close reality is obligingly following suit?
