  20.         BITNET began in 1981 as a small network of IBM computers based at the
  21.         City University of New York (CUNY). Today BITNET connects over 1,300
  22.         sites and 2,400 computers in 38 countries. It is made up of three
  23.         separate networks connecting academic and research organizations.
  24.         BITNET itself consists of BITNET (US and Mexico), NetNorth (Canada),
  25.         and EARN (European Academic Research Network). BITNET is run by EDUCOM
  26.         in Washington, DC, USA, and is part of CREN. BITNET members must be
  27.         members of CREN.

  32. Well, maybe the folks at BITNET, reading this newsgroup, will provide some up-
  33. to-date information?

  35. Anyway, you could try to freq (=file request; Fidonet terminology) some text
  36. files from NETSERV@bitnic.educom.edu. Try a "GET BITNET USERHELP" and a "HELP"
  37. command.  That should give you a start.

  39. There are also a lot of BITNET listservers, serving all kinds of mailing lists.
  40. If you want to, I can mail you a list. Just let me know.
