- Hi y'all--
- I am having trouble setting up two nodes of the new Multiline
- version of PCBoard in DOS windows in Win 3.1. Now, I get a file
- locking error message accompanied by "illegal function number"
- everytime I log on locally (this also happens when callers log
- on, but I don't think it is being echoed to the user--it just
- shows up in the users log). According the message, which is
- preceded by "(1:7:1:4)", the errors are occurring when PCBoard
- tries to access my USERS and MSGS files, which are in the
- deafult \PCB\MAIN\ directory and are supposed to be shared
- by the two nodes. When I tried to put SHAREDOS's SHARE utility
- in my AUTOEXEC.BAT, I got a sharing violation error as soon as
- I tried to run either of the two nodes. I thought that Win 3.1
- included its own file sharing routine--is it wise to run the DOS
- SHARE while running Windows 3.1?
-
- Here are the diagnostics on SHARE functions reported by the system
- analysis utility that comes with PCBoard:
-
- Begin quoted text-----------------------------------------------
-
- DOS's SHARE command is loaded
- and PCBoard is set to make network calls
-
-
- Test SHARE functions:
- Open DENY ALL / attempt to share file by second process succeeded - ERROR!
- Open DENY NONE / attempt to share file by second process succeeded - OKAY
- Attempt to lock record #1 by first process failed - ERROR!
- Attempt to lock record #1 by second process failed - OKAY
- Attempt to read record #1 by second process failed - OKAY
-
- End quoted text-------------------------------------------------
-
- By the way, I also noticed that PCBoard is not creating a
- USERNET.DAT file like it's supposed to when in multiline
- mode. Instead, a file called "USERNET.XXX" is created in the
- \PCB\MAIN\ directory. Why is it doing this?
-
- I had two nodes running last summer with no file sharing
- problems--I'm reasonably sure that everything else is
- configured properly because users can log on, download files,
- etc., but I have the feeling if they tried to fire up CHAT or
- some other network function something messy might happen.
-
- For the curious, the BBS is installed on a 386sx in a 70 meg
- partition on an 85 meg IDE drive. I am running Norton Desktop
- for Windows and the two caller nodes are the only things in my
- startup window.
-
- Suggestions welcome; thanks in advance.

-
- P.S. Does anyone know if there's a list or group devoted to
- discussing PCBoard (on the Internet, that is?)
