  37. In Leviticus 22:8 and 22:9, God commands his people not to eat of anything
  38. that dieth of itself or has been gnawed on by an animal, or they will die.  
  39.  
  40. Obviously, the God of the bible knew about disease and that it could be
  41. passed by saliva and by eating an animal that died of disease.  How 
  42. reassuring to know that God is not an idiot!
  43.  
  44. Nowadays, we know about disease germs, parasites, and  viruses (viri?).  
  45. But back then, all they knew was that eating certain foods caused one
  46. to die.  Either the ancients attributed their knowledge to God, or God
  47. actually told them what to eat.  Believe whichever makes you most 
  48. comfortable.  In either case, the result is a list of foods that "God" 
  49. will kill you for eating. (through disease)
  50.  
  51. Add Leviticus to Deuteronomy and look at it in light of what we now know
  52. about health.  It is quite obvious that Deuteronomy is a list of dangerous
  53. foods, except for that odd sentence about not seething a kid in its mother's
  54. milk.
