- making me feel as if bad karma's catching up with me,
- paleblue@byron.u.washington.edu (Hermes) writes:
-
- : Sorry :( I'll try to keep the bubbles down. I don't know about that
- : subtle thing though...when I combine it with your notion that I want
- : to make people cheerful it sounds like I'm gonna be manipulating
- : people. I don't want to change anyone.
-
- that whole statement is hopelessly tangled in self-contradiction,
- hermes. the whole idea of wanting to make people cheerful means
- wanting to change them. it also assumes that you do people a service
- when you make them cheerful (not always true) and that you somehow
- have the power to control their moods anyway.
-
- personally, i find few things more annoying than people who assume
- that everyone needs to be cheerful all the time and who barge into my
- life with a self-given mandate to "cheer me up" without even caring
- enough to figure out why i'm down in the first place. balloons and
- bubbles are all very nice in their place, but knowing what their place
- is seems to be beyond some people.
-
- : I just wanna be me and
- : interact. Gosh, everybody's so goal- oriented. I would think that
- : angst is better for just like floating and stuff.
-
- wanting to cheer people up is being goal-oriented, dear. if angst is
- better for just like floating and stuff, why isn't it okay for people
- to just float however they feel like floating?
-
- and later on, in another response, the paleblue creature says:
-
- : I got the feeling the newsgroup can handle me just fine. Questions
- : are for more than just answering, mister.
-
- did you also get the feeling you annoyed the living shit out of a lot
- of people? and questions are for asking, but some kinds of questions
- just don't work well here.
-
- bleah. i hate sounding like one of the angst.police, because i've
- always hated trying to say "this belongs here and that doesn't." but
- really, this whole case feels different, i guess because it feels like
- being overrun by teen-aged candy stripers when you've just had major
- surgery.
