  17. Certainly PMDF strips blanks in several contexts...  PMDF acts as a BITNET
  18. gateway and thus loss of trailing blanks is sometimes inevitable.

  20. The UUCP channel in particular strips trailing blanks in headers and between
  21. the header and body. Both of these actions are directly related to common
  22. code that's shared with the BITNET interface.

  24. I seem to recall taking out some additional superfluous blank stripping
  25. code in the UUCP channel some time ago. I don't recall the details, however.
  26. These channels have been extensively revised in each of the last few
  27. releases.

  29. Finally, your comments about UUENCODE simply reinforce the fact that its
  30. a poor choice of encoding. Using ` instead of spaces fixes some of the
  31. trailing space problems but then promptly proceeds to break several other
  32. implementations of UUENCODE. UUENCODE will never be a universal winner
  33. because it was never precisely specified and now there are simply too
  34. many semi-interoperable implementations.
