-
- Welcome to vmsnet.internals, a newsgroup for the discussion of VMS
- internals, VMS systems programming, and systems languages such as MACRO-32
- and BLISS-32 (and C and FORTRAN, etc., with regard to VMS systems
- programming). Typical posts could include MACRO programming problems with
- syntax, questions about undocumented system routines, solutions to common
- problems, etc.
-
- This newsgroup is gatewayed to the MACRO32@WKUVX1.BITNET mailing list. If
- you'd rather read this traffic via electronic mail, you can subscribe to
- the mailing list (send e-mail with the body SUBSCRIBE MACRO32 to
- LISTSERV@WKUVX1.BITNET; this is not a "real" LISTSERV.) More information on
- LISTSERV is provided below.
-
- Special thanks are due to Mark Berryman for providing the MACRO32 to
- vmsnet.internals gateway and to Terry Kennedy for providing an ftp site for
- FILESERV files.
-
- This is a routine posting you will see from time to time on MACRO32. While
- your subscription to MACRO32 is appreciated and your input welcomed, there
- are a few things to remember.
-
- First, the use of a brief and descriptive subject header for your messages
- is encouraged. A subject such as "Problem" is not very helpful, while a
- subject such as "Problem queueing ASTs to other processes" is very
- informative and useful.
-
- Second, if you have posed a question to MACRO32 and have received private
- answers which address your problem, please post a summary of replies back
- to the list or group. Such summary postings will be appreciated by the
- subscribers as they will be enabled to follow your problem and not wonder,
- "What about the post regarding...?" Also, these postings often provide for
- further extensions of the original question. A suggested summary subject
- header is the original subject preceded or followed by the word "Summary",
- such as "Kernel mode hints - Summary".
-
- Third, the MACRO32 archives are maintained at ARCHIVES@WKUVX1.BITNET. To
- get a copy of any month's postings, send an e-mail message with the body
- SEND MACRO32.yyyy-mm to ARCHIVES@WKUVX1.BITNET, where "yyyy" is the year
- and "mm" is the numeric representation of the month. For example, the
- message SEND MACRO32.1991-05 will access the archives for May 1991.
-
- The archive files are also available via anonymous ftp from FTP.SPC.EDU
- (192.107.46.27) in the [.MACRO32.LISTS] directory.
-
- Fourth, FILESERV@WKUVX1.BITNET is the file server for all list-related
- programs and text files. If you have a program that you wish to make
- available, please forward them to MacroMan@WKUVX1.BITNET. Once the files
- are in place, their availability will be announced to the list. For a
- brief list of all files available, send e-mail with the body DIR ALL to
- FILESERV.
-
- The files are also available via anonymous ftp from FTP.SPC.EDU
- (192.107.46.27) in the [.MACRO32] directory.
-
- (The old server, MACROSRV, has been replaced by FILESERV@WKUVX1.BITNET.)
-
- Finally, please feel free to post to the list. It is provided as a forum
- for your discussion of issues related to VMS systems programming and
- programming in MACRO-32, BLISS, and other languages. Since we consist of
- beginners and pros, I hope we can answer most questions posed.
-
- To remove yourself from the mailing list, send the following command to
- LISTSERV@WKUVX1.BITNET:
-
- SIGNOFF MACRO32
-
- LISTSERV supports a few other commands for your convenience. The following
- commands can be handled automatically by the list processor:
-
- SIGNOFF MACRO32 - to remove yourself from the list
- REVIEW MACRO32 - to get a list of subscribers
- QUERY MACRO32 - to get the status of your entry on the list
- SET MACRO32 NOMAIL - to remain on the list but not receive mail
- SET MACRO32 MAIL - to resume receiving mail from the list
- SET MACRO32 CONCEAL - to not report your address in a REVIEW
- SET MACRO32 NOCONCEAL - to report your address in a REVIEW
- SET MACRO32 REPRO - to receive posts you make to MACRO32
- SET MACRO32 NOREPRO - to not receive posts you make to MACRO32
- LIST - to get a list of mailing lists served by WKUVX1
- HELP - to receive a help file
-
- By default, subscriptions are set to MAIL, REPRO, NOCONCEAL.
