- More accurately, Ted needs religion and belief in the supernatural to confer
- meaning in his life. Many of us are quite capable of deriving significant
- meaning and purpose without those things, yet Ted seems unable to grasp
- that such can be done without the supernatural, therefore he, like so many
- other deliberately intellectually blind people, can't understand how one
- can find purpose and great joy in their existence all by itself.
