- My brother is in Europe for Christmas on the Saint Mary's/
- Notre Dame program in Rome. I sent him an early Christmas present
- of one Eurail pass. So my brother hit the rails of Europe, going
- wherever the mood took him, sometimes with other students but more
- often alone, meeting the Europeans first hand. My brother being a
- devastatingly charming individual when he wants to be, he never
- spent a whole trip by himself. He's lived a disgustingly cinematic,
- not to mentioned charmed, life.
- Come Christmas, he was on an overnight train with three Saint
- Mary's students (sometimes I get jealous of my brother, really) on
- his way to Prague from Vienna. He had a sleeping compartment to
- himself on one car, because his seat-mate had fallen sick back in
- Rome, while the women were in a different car. They celebrated
- Christmas Eve in the dining car, and then retired.
- That night, someone entered the sleeping car my brother was in.
- Armed with a passkey, they entered every compartment in turn, used
- a spray can of ether on the sleeping passengers, and ransacked the
- valuables compartments. They then left all passports, visas, and
- other forms of identification in the bathroom, neatly organized by
- room number.
- They got $300 cash and $500 in traveler's checks from my brother.
- Merry fucking belated Christmas, Tom.
