- On Sunday I was skiing at Purgatory, which is a ski area near Durango,
- which is near my in-laws' ranch. Beautiful scenery, tolerable crowds
- (although with a distinct Texas accent), decent snow.
-
- The names of the runs, at least on the older part of the ski area,
- follow the theme: Cherub, Paradise, Hades, Styx. I was pretty sure
- that last year I'd skiied a great bump run called 666, but I couldn't
- find it on the map.
-
- "Oh, yes," drawled the woman on the chairlift, "they changed that one
- this year. It's called No Mercy now. I heard they got some objections
- from a Christian group. Number of the devil, and all that."
-
- Ah, Colorado.
