  13. This is the Christmas of wildly variable gift-giving.  It
  14. is the Christmas of insanely appropriate & excellent gifts
  15. for five people, and of nothing whatsoever for 10 others.
  16. It is the Christmas of 2 CDs for them, and 5 CDs for me.
  17. It is the Christmas of maybe finding a tie for the boyfriend,
  18. while achieving present perfection for his nephews.  It is
  19. the Christmas of muttering violent imprecations against
  20. Frank & Bing, Rudolph & Frosty while weeping over "It's a
  21. Wonderful Life".  It is my fourth Christmas, and I suspect
  22. it will be my last.  And not because of any religious wars,
  23. Christians v Pagans, either.  Because the American Christmas
  24. econonmy is sick.  Because advertising nauseates me.  Because
  25. every time I see a manufacturer using Christmas to sell me
  26. something, I want to machine-gun him, his ad agency, and his
  27. product.

  29. Christmas is meant to produce happy satisfied consuming non-
  30. revolutionary citizens.  It has done the opposite with me.
