- Some years ago, after remarking to a friend how well the music fit on her
- experimental film, she explained that any arbitrary soundtrack seems to synch
- up to your film footage without even trying. It's just the brain having a
- good time with pattern recognition. I replied that she didn't know how to
- take a compliment, and filed the data away in my endless store of useless
- information.
-
- This morning [SCENE MISSING] I came in to work early to exercise in the
- health club, and "Good Morning America" was on all the video monitors. I
- have a semi-religious hatred for television news (morning news especially),
- so I went to plan B, my walkman.
-
- Our basement (where the file servers and health club are) is
- electromagnetically shielded -- basically one big faraday cage (can you say
- paranoia? I thought you could), so I couldn't listen to the radio either.
- Plan C, play whatever tape I happened to leave in the walkman n months ago.
- It turned out to be the Eurythmics, Sweet Dreams. Not very current, but
- what the hell.
-
- I must say it was a surreal experience watching Somalia and
- Bosnia-Herceamumblia footage synch up perfectly and rather ironically with
- "Love is a Stranger" and "Wrap it Up" while I jogged my three miles. Also,
- the weather came on during the first line of "I could give you"
- ("Oh how could you be so cold...") and I was impressed. It is obviously
- coincidences like this that make credulous people think that psychic
- phenomena exist. PV
-
- P.S. Deet dee dee dee dee (taking my sister's part to avoid confusion).
-
- P.P.S. My newsfeed is sick as usual, and for some reason the admin
- (otherwise a very cool guy) doesn't give talk.bizarre top priority
- when catching up. If you want to make a lame followup, you might
- consider a lame mail reply instead.
