  14. AP - Baton Rouge.  A state district judge has ordered Kim Carmouche, 
  15. an anti-abortion leader and unsuccessful Baton Rouge mayoral 
  16. candidate, to pay more than $13,000 in child support or face three 
  17. months in jail.

  19. District Judge John Peytavin also ordered Carmouche to pay $250.00 in 
  20. attorney's fees to his ex-wife, Chris, within 60 days.  
  21.  
  22. Carmouche, the leader of Operation Rescue Louisiana, has been in and 
  23. out of court over child support since November, 1985, when he first 
  24. was found in arrears, court records show.

  26. This week, Peytavin adjusted Carmouche's $340 a month child support 
  27. payments to $227 a month beginning Jan. 1.

  29. Carmouche is financially responsible for seven children, his attorney 
  30. said.  He has three children from his previous marriage --- one is over 
  31. 18 --- and four from his present marriage.  Also his wife is pregnant, 
  32. expecting another child any day, his attorney, Vincent "BZ" Sotile, 
  33. Jr., said.

  35. In September, Peytavin found Carmouche owed $11,630, court records 
  36. show, and when Carmouche failed to pay, the judge found him in 
  37. contempt.

  39. Peytavin suspended the contempt sentence on condition Carmouche pay 
  40. $6,000 by Jan. 15 and the remaining $7,285 by June 21, the court 
  41. records show.

  43. Carmouche is employed by the Redeeming Word of Life Church in Baton 
  44. Rouge.  The Rev. David Diamond, pastor of Redeeming Word, said 
  45. Carmouche is paid by a coalition of churches, not just his church, in 
  46. his capacity as leader of Operation Rescue Louisiana.

  48. Carmouche was named leader of Operation Rescue-Louisiana shortly after 
  49. national anti-abortion activists ended their week long "Summer of 
  50. Purpose" protest outside the Delta Women's Clinic in Baton Rouge.
