  35. Most, if not all, slave owners considered their slaves to be their
  36. property and other slaves to be property of other slave owners.  Many
  37. women do not consider their fetuses to be property.

  42. ethic and by the majority of the abortion abolitionist movement.  Many
  43. slave owners simply made a distinction between `free' persons and

  49. Very few abortion abolitionists actually believe that fetuses are
  50. persons.  Evidence of this is that only a small minority wish to
  51. abolish abortion even in cases of rape and grave threat to the
  52. mother's health.  Of those that don't, many are totally unwilling to
  53. demand that the law recognize the personhood of fetuses (e.g. Doug
  54. Holtsinger) and the rest are rather candid about their equivocation
  55. in the matter.
