MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS:                           December 29, 1992

     The Air Force today announced a force structure action affecting Nellis
AFB, Nev.

     The Air Force will retain an active duty F-4G squadron to ensure the
destructive suppression of enemy air defense capabilities until a suitable
replacement becomes available.  As a result of this decision, the 57th Wing at
Nellis AFB will begin receiving 20 F-4G aircraft in early 1993, and activate
the 561st Fighter Squadron.  This action will result in an increase of 746
full-time military and 17 civilian manpower authorizations.

     Environmental analysis for this action has been completed in compliance
with the National Environmental Policy Act.

MEMORANDUM  FOR  CORRESPONDENTS                               December 29, 1992

     On January 2, 1993, Vietnam date, technical representatives of Vietnam and
the United States are scheduled to begin joint investigations and remains
recovery operations pertaining to unaccounted for Americans in Vietnam.  This
will be the 21st joint field activity conducted by U.S. and Vietnamese repre-
sentatives since September 1988.

     The joint team will work in seven Vietnamese provinces and plans to
investigate 22 primary cases and excavate a crash site.  They also hope to
investigate as many as 50 other cases and will be prepared to conduct other
excavations as appropriate.  The 61 U.S. team members will be under the
operational control of Joint Task Force Full Accounting and include forensic
specialists with experience in investigations and recovery operations.  They
will be led by Army Lt. Colonel John V. Donovan, commander of Joint Task Force
Full Accounting's Detachment 2, located in Hanoi.  The activities are expected
to last 16 days.

     There are 2,264 Americans still listed as missing or otherwise unaccounted
for in Indochina.  Of that total, 1,656 are listed as unaccounted for in
Vietnam.  To date, 270 Americans previously listed as missing in Vietnam have
been accounted for.

     During the most recent operation in Vietnam, which was conducted from
October 21 to November 18 of this year, a joint U.S./Vietnamese team conducted
operations in 11 provinces, investigated 54 cases, surveyed a crash site, and
excavated two other sites.  Some remains, believed to be human, were recovered
at two of these sites.  Those remains are currently being examined.

     Accounting for Americans still missing in Southeast Asia as a result of
the Vietnam War is a matter of the highest national priority for the United
States.  The United States welcomes and appreciates the cooperation of Vietnam
in this upcoming field operation.

     ITT Corporation, Aerospace/Communications Division, Fort Wayne, Indiana,
was awarded on December 23, 1992, a $32,603,197 firm fixed price letter
contract for 3000 VHF Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems (SINC-
GARS) and associated equipment for Foreign Military Sale Case No.  SI-B-JBF,
the Saudi Arabian National Guard.  Work will be performed at Fort Wayne,
Indiana, and is expected to be completed by July 31, 1999.  Contract funds will
not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This is a sole - source
contract initiated on September 29, 1992.  The contracting activity is the U.S.
  Army Communications and Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey
  (DAAB07-93-C-GOO6).

     Loral Vought Systems, Grand Prairie, Texas, was awarded on December 23,
1992, a $3,500,000 increment as part of a $31,794,854 cost plus incentive fee
contract for the development of a Multiple launch Rocket System extended range
rocket.  Work will he performed in Camden, Arizona (81.85%) and Grand Prairie,
Texas (18.15%), and is expected to be completed by June 30, 1997.  Of the total
contract funds, $3,500,000 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
This is a sole source contract initiated on July 17, 1992.  The contracting
  activity is the U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama
  (DAAH01-93-C-0080).

     General Dynamics Corporation, Air Defense Systems Division, Pomona,
California, was awarded on December 23, 1992, a $5,633,705 modification to a
firm fixed price letter contract definitization for STINGER Gripstocks,
Tracking Head Trainers, and Read Only Memory Modules IV.  Work will be per-
formed in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and is expected to be completed by
January 31, 1994.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current
  fiscal year.  This is a sole source contract initiated on February 21, 1992.
  The contracting activity is the U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal,
  Alabama (DAAH01-92-C-0152).

     System Planning Corporation, Arlington, Virginia, was awarded on December
24, 1992, an $858,000 increment as part of a $6,102,666 cost plus fixed fee
level of effort (term) contract for Scientific, Engineering, and Technical
Assistance (SETA) services for DARPA Land Systems office technologies.  Work
will be performed in Arlington, Virginia (62%); McLean, Virginia (14%); Santa
Barbara, California (12%); Alexandria, Virginia (6%), and Washington, D.C.
(6%), and is expected to be completed by December 23, 1995.  Contract funds
will not expire ae the end of the current fiscal year.  There were 97 bids
  solicited on January 10, 1992, and 3 bids received.  The contracting activity
  is the Defense Supply Service-Washington, Washington, D.C. (MDA972-93-
  C-0016).

     Loral Control Systems, Archbald, Pennsylvania, was awarded on December 24,
1992, a $9,979,251 firm fixed price contract for 1608 Tube-launched, Optically
tracked, Wire-command link (TOW) 2B Target Sensors.  Work will be performed in
Archbald, Pennsylvania, and is expected to be completed by March 30, 1994.
Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This is
a sole source contract initiated on March 10, 1992.  The contracting activity
is the U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama (DAAH01-93-C-0066).

     Titan Linkabit, San Diego, California, was awarded on December 24, 1992, a
$9,275,096 modification to a firm fixed price contract for 75 controllers, 125
modulators, 125 demodulators and 75 frames as part of the OM-73 modem group
used in various DOD communications systems.  Work will be performed in San
Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by January 1, 1994.  Con-
tract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This is a
sole source contract initiated on October 2, 1992.  The contracting activity is
the U.S. Army Communications and Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey
(DAAB07-84-C-J573).

    Saco Defense Incorporated, Saco, Maine, is being awarded a $5,319,960 firm
fixed price contract for 1028 M60 machine guns.  Work will be performed in
Saco, Maine, and is expected to be completed by April 30, 1994.  Of the total
contract funds, $5,299,340 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
This is a sole source contract initiated on July 31, 1992.  The contracting
activity is the U.S. Army Armament, Munitions and Chemical Command, Rock
Island, Illinois (DAAA09-91-G-0008).

                                   NAVY

     Planning Systems, Inc., McLean, Virginia, is being awarded a $9,555,645
cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for anti-submarine warfare and mine warfare
performance estimation for contingency and limited objective warfare/low
intensity conflict (CALOW/LIC) applications for a period of three years to
improve environmental forces in signal processing, advanced environmental
models and data base enhancements.  Work will be performed at the Naval
Research Laboratory Detachment, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, and be
completed by December 31, 1995.  This contract was competitively procured.
Contract funds in the amount of $173,170.76 will expire by 31 December 1992.
The Naval Research Laboratory, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, is the
contracting activity (N00O14-93-C-6003).

     Paramax Systems Corporation, Great Neck, New York, is being awarded a
$5,008,320 firm-fixed price letter contract for six MK-2O Signal Data Conver-
tor/Gun Mount Processors (SDC/GMPs) plus one lot of Interim Repair Parts
(IPRs).  This contract includes one option for four SDC/GMPs worth $2,991,600
and a second option for six additional SDC/GMPs, including one lot of IRPs
worth $4,130,938.  The SDC/GMP is a major hardware component of the MK- 160 M0D
4 Gun Computer System (GCS) which is the computational and interface control
element of the REGIS DDG-51 class Destroyer Gun Weapon System.  Work will be
performed in Huntsville, Alabama, and Great Neck, New York, and is expected to
be completed by July 1996.  No contract funds will expire at the end of the
current fiscal year.  The Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity
(N00024-93-C-5610).

     TRW, Inc., (MEAD) Avionics and Surveillance Group, San Diego, California,
is being awarded a $9,907,095 not-to-exceed ceiling priced modification for
short range unmanned aerial vehicle system personnel training, systems logis-
tics and technical manuals.  This modifies contract #N00019-89-C-0346, issued
to Israel Aircraft Industries in September, 1989, and novated to TRW, Inc.,
(MAAD] Avionics and Surveillance Group on 28 December 1992.  Work will be
performed in Dominguez Hills, California (50%), and Lod, Israel (50%).  Con-
tract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  Naval Air
Systems Command is the contracting activity (N00019-89-C-0346).

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CONTRACT AWARDS
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1992

                                          NAVY

       Paramax Systems Corporation, Great Neck, New York, is being awarded a
$29,657,896 firm-fixed-price contract for one MK-92 Fire Control System (FCS)
plus on-board special tools & test equipment, spares and ancillary equipment.
Work will be performed in Huntsville, Alabama (4%), Pueblo, Colorado (7%), and
Great Neck, New York (89%), and is expected to be completed by April 1995.
Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This
contract is 100% for Taiwan under the Foreign Military Sales Program.  This
contract was not competitively procured.  The Naval Sea Systems Command is the
contracting activity (N00024-93-C-5623).

       KPMG Peat Marwick, Washington, D.C., is being awarded a $6,039,685
cost-plus-fixed-fee indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to provide
support services of the implementation of VISION.  VISION is a software
management package used in predicting milestones in project completions.  Work
will be performed in New London, Connecticut (50%), and Newport, Rhode Island
(50%), and is expected to be completed by September 1997.  Contract funds will
not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This contract was competi-
tively procured with 48 bids solicited and one bid received.  The Naval
Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, Rhode Island, is the contracting
activity (N66604-93-D-A752).

      Computing Devices International, Bloomington, Minnesota, is being awarded
a $5,048,064 delivery order to provide 72 Variable High Speed Integrated
Circuit (VHSIC) Processor Modules and 36 Type 8 Chassis Enclosures in support
of the AN/AYK-14 Navy Standard Airborne Computer to support F/A-18 Finland
Installs.  Work will be performed in Bloomington, Minnesota, and is expected to
be completed by December 1995.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of
the current fiscal year.  This contract is 100% for Finland under the Foreign
Military Sales Program.  This contract was not competitively procured.  The
Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Indianapolis, Indiana, is the
contracting activity (N00163-92-D-0001).

                                     ARMY

   Raytheon Peninsula Systems Company, Andover, Massachusetts, is being awarded
a $19,923,202 firm fixed price contract (with options for a cumulative total of
$20,890,999) for technical assistance (812 man-months) in support of the HAWk
Missile Program in the United Arab Emirates.  Work will be performed in the
United Arab Emirates, and is expected to be completed by December 31, 1994.
Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  This is
a sole source contract initiated on September 10, 1992.  The contracting
activity is the U. S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama
(DAAH01-93-C-0074).

   Raytheon Company, Missile Systems Division, Bedford, Massachusetts, is being
awarded a $5,241,340 cost plus incentive fee contract to provide depot level
diagnostics and repairs (300 man-months of effort) for the Patriot Air Defense
Weapon System.  Work will be performed at Fort Bliss, Texas (62%);  Fort lewis,
Washington (15%), and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (15%), and is expected to be
completed by September 30, 1993.  Contract funds will expire at the end of the
current fiscal year.  This is a sole source contract initiated on June 6, 1992.
The contracting activity is the U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal,
Alabama (DAAH01-93-C-0006).

                               CIVIL WORKS - NON MILITARY

    Phillips and Jordan, Incorporated, Mulberry, Florida, is being awarded a
$10,361,660 indefinite quantity, firm fixed price contract for hauling approxi-
mately 840,000 tons of hurricane Andrew debris to a final disposal site.  Work
will be performed in Dade County and Broward County, Florida, and is expected
to be completed by March 1, 1993.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of
the current fiscal year.  There were 100 bids solicited on November 12, 1992,
and 22 bids received.  The contracting activity is the U.S.  Army Corps of
Engineers, Jacksonville, Florida (DACW17-93-D-0014).  December 29, 1992

                                        AIR FORCE

      Boeing Aerospace Operations, Incorporated, Cocoa Beach, Florida, is being
awarded a $10,102,298 (Estimated) firm-fixed-price contract for contractor
logistics support for the LGM-30 Minuteman and LGM-118 Peacekeeper missile
trainers.  The work will be performed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming,
Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri,
Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California and -
Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.  Contract is expected to be completed Septem-
ber 1994.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal
year.  Three bids were solicited and one proposal was received.  The solicita-
tion was issued in March 1992.  The Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill Air Force
Base, Utah, is the contracting activity (F42610-92-C-0103).

      Lockheed Corporation, Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company, Marietta,
Georgia, is being awarded a $18,069,350 firm-fixed-price contract for spares
and support equipment for the C-130H aircraft.  Contract is expected to be
completed June 1994.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current
fiscal year.  One bid was solicited and one proposal was received.  The
solicitation was issued in December 1992 and negotiations were completed in
December 1992.  The Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base,
Georgia, is the contracting activity (F33657-90-C-007l, P00021).
