- IMHO, it depends (yeah, now, that's definitive..:-)). On what? Well,
- first, the newspaper you post in. A posting in the NY Daily News will get
- you a whole universe of different people than, say, the Princeton NJ local
- paper. Different class, different agendas, different style, period.
-
- Secondly, just what are you looking for (now, that sounds familiar...)? Dinner
- companions, bridge partners, SO, or occasional companion. Like they say
- in advertising classes, you gotta make it clear to the consumer.
-
- On the whole, depending on the time of year, phases of the moon, rainfall
- amounts in Brazil, exchange rates, CPI, or current occupant of the
- white house, they: work/don't work/are dangerous/are fun/etc. You pays
- your money, you takes your chances.
-
- Some hints:
-
- 1) never give out your address if you make a contact: meet in a "neutral
- territory" over coffee or a burger, then see how it goes.
-
- 2) No last names until you're sure you can, at least on some level, trust
- the person.
-
- 3) Keep it light, and honest.
-
- that's about all the wisdom I can muster - yeah, I'm a lurker...but, to all
- on the net, a happy and safe, as well as romance-filled, 1993!
