  25. First of all, according to the bible, a Jew is not permitted to marry
  26. a non-Jew.  There is nothing which says "stay separate from the
  27. gentiles".

  29. Conservative Judaism is actually the middle ground between Orthodoxy
  30. and Reformed Judaism.  The Conservative movement within Judaism
  31. started as a reaction to the Reformed.  Many wanted to keep the rules
  32. and traditions which Reformed Judaism discarded, but to modernize --
  33. especially vis-a-vis the roles taken by women.

  35. One of the rules which the Reformed dropped was the prohibition on 
  36. intermarriage.

  38. I am nominally a conservative Jew (I actually belong to a congregation
  39. which sits on the fence between Orthodoxy and Conservatism).  But in
  40. practice and belief, I adhere to my own personal interpretation of
  41. Judaism, which is pretty unique...

  43. Also note that there are subgroupings in these major headings.  For
  44. instance, the Hassidim are a sub-group within the orthodox, and
  45. Lubavich is a sub-group within the Hassidim.
