  13. The question:  Women: would you go out with a man dumber than you

  15. The answer:  depends on what you mean by "dumb."
  16.   
  17. I strongly believe that there is more than one type of intelligence, and
  18. that not all types are equally important in my decision of whether or
  19. not to go out with a guy.  For example, I would and do (and must) go
  20. out with guys who are "dumber" than I am in algebraic topology, differential
  21. calculus, inferential statistics, and organizational theory.  On the
  22. other hand, I go out with guys who are much smarter than I am in repairing
  23. automobiles, solving complicated network design difficulties, understanding
  24. medeval literature, and conducting qualitative research.  None of this
  25. seems particularly relevant.  
  26.    However, I have consistently found that I have no success with guys
  27. who are "dumb" in human relations.  A guy who doesn't have a clue how
  28. to be comfortable and happy around women is not a fun date.  Similarly,
  29. a guy who is "stupid" in the ways and means of finding out about (and
  30. respecting) the person behind the vagina is not someone I am likely to
  31. spend much time with.  In general, I would not want to continue to date 
  32. a man who had no social IQ to speak of.
