  13. It would be nice if there were some interesting stuff in my email,
  14. about once a week.  Usually there is nothing in my email.  So I would
  15. like a penpal.

  17. I am a student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  I
  18. am in the fourth and final year of an undergraduate Statistics
  19. program.  When I graduate in May I hope to have a job in social science
  20. research (e.g. survey methodology).  
  21.  
  22.           I have this computer account
  23. for use in my stats courses; I'm no Unix guru or anything!  (Most of
  24. the net would think I was only semi-computer literate, but the net is
  25. very literate.  In fact I teach statistical computing to intro stats
  26. students here, as a TA.)  So I would like a penpal who doesn't always
  27. want to talk computers.  (Whether you want to talk stats is up to you.)
  28.  
  29.           My outside interests are many.  I like music and have played
  30. piano, saxophone and flute (and I collect musical toys).  I consider
  31. politics a spectator sport (US national in particular, but elections
  32. anywhere are entertaining.)  I am very interested in feminism and
  33. social justice issues.  I dabble a little in linguistics, and I
  34. speak/write French reasonably and German unreasonably.  I have a few
  35. snail-mail penpals around the world, and I really like writing letters.

  37.           I would like a penpal who is "far away", meaning anywhere
  38. but the 5th floor of Dunton Tower at Carleton University.  But the
  39. further away, the more exciting!  I will tell you about Canada if you
  40. tell me about your country.

  42.           I don't care about your age, sex, race, height, weight, hair
  43. colour, etc.  In deference to the discriminatory culture, I will
  44. inform you that I am 20 years old and biologically female.  Neither is
  45. relevant, since I am interested in a penpal, not electronic romance.

  47.           If you want to drop me a line, please do so.  I should warn
  48. you that I am quite busy with school and social life, so I may not
  49. have time to answer everyone who replies.  And I won't be able to send
  50. messages to a penpal every day.  But if you too would like to log in
  51. with "You have new mail" occasionally, please write.
