- The question is outwardly naive. Companies do things
- against their own best interests all the time, for all
- manner of reasons. One of the more common things, where
- they can get away with it, is firing an employee who's
- performing satisfactorily or better because of a
- supervisor's personal enmity. You *have* heard of enmity
- arising from homophobia, yes?
