  18.     ASPEN, COLO. -- Singer John Denver and actor Harry
  19.     Hamlin were among celebrities who appeared at a variety
  20.     show to raise money for repeal of Amendment 2, Colorado's
  21.     new anti-gay rights measure.

  23.     Hamlin drew applause Sunday when he welcomed about 400
  24.     people on behalf of those who want the amendment to
  25.     "disappear from the face of the Earth."

  27.     Actor Anthony Zerbe also appeared and said: "The way to
  28.     deal with it is to repeal it."

  30.     John Oates was in the audience but didn't perform.  Liza
  31.     Minnelli backed out of the show in observation of a
  32.     boycott of Colorado.

  34.     The boycott has gained momentum since voters approved
  35.     Amendment 2 on November 3.  The measure prohibits
  36.     governments in the state from passing laws barring
  37.     discrimination against gays.

  39.     Organizers of the benefit expected to raise more than
  40.     $50,000 for the repeal effort.
