  16. If you've been reading Liz Smith's syndicated column recently,
  17. you know she hasn't missed an opportunity to lambast homophobes,
  18. praise lesbian and gay causes, report gay-related media develop-
  19. ments (including several items on Gus Van Sant's upcoming Harvey
  20. Milk film), quote relentlessly from _The Advocate_, support
  21. safer-sex education and promote numerous AIDS fund-raisers.

  23. In a standout column on the lesbian-activist daughter if Robert
  24. Mosbaucher (George Bush's chief fundraiser) Liz said, "Forget
  25. that Diane Mosbaucher is gay. Just try considering her as a human
  26. being, and you'll see how admirably she comes off... against the
  27. gay-bashing of a Republican heirarchy headed by her famous
  28. father."
