  16. New York City Schools Chancellor Joseph Fernandez is under attack
  17. for supporting the "Children of the Rainbow" cirriculum, which
  18. includes recognition of lesbian- and gay-headed families.
  19.  
  20. Five NYC school disctricts rejected the cirriculum because it is
  21. gay-inclusive. Mary Cummins, school board president of Queens'
  22. district 24, organized rallies (at tax-payer expense) in front of
  23. the Board of Education, where she proclaimed, "We will not accept
  24. two people of the same sex engaged in deviant sex practices as
  25. family."

  27. Fernandez has stood firm, arguing that "discrimination is wrong
  28. and the way to deal with it is education," and demanding that any
  29. district that rejects the cirriculum devise gay-inclusive
  30. alternatives.
