  11. I've been folowing the strings on ageism in this conference and 
  12. and a term I came up with some ago comes to mind once again.

  17. How long has the gay male community generated a market for the likes
  18. of TORSO magizine and the films of CATALINA? Even our major news
  19. publication invests in this with the likes of ADVOCATE MEN. I think
  20. all of this is not very different than the feminest complaint of the
  21. objectification of the female body. Many gay men have bought into
  22. the notion that youth is the sexual pinacle. Young men have been
  23. idolized for at least decades in american gay male culture.

  25. The overwhelming presence of pedophilia (even when their over 18
  26. the motivation for them is the same) has become institutionalized.
  27. The abundance of erotica and pornography that involves young men
  28. is staggering really. A large chunk of our "serious" fiction also
  29. deals with the young male. The dance bars and a variety of other 
  30. clubs are filled with middle-aged men looking for boys and boys 
  31. looking for boys.

  33. What is all about? Perhaps its the lingering on of the days 
  34. when most gay men where doomed to an old age of loneliness;
  35. an attempt to stave off age with youthfull bodies. Perhaps
  36. its the natural expression of human yearning for prodigy. Or
  37. the byproduct of male libido that has nothing to do with gender
  38. but seeks to dominate and the young are easy to subdue.

  41. All of this is not say to say that young men are not attractive
  42. or that lusting after them is evil. Rather to provide some 
  43. perspective on the tidal wave of ephebiphilic imagery and longing.

  46. This has not been the most coherent representation of my thought
  47. on this subject but I think its good food for thought.
