  21. Well, I don't know if you realise this, but anthropologists are trained 
  22. to view other cultures objectively, or at least as much as possible.  In
  23. this process, senses of superiority and disdain are reduced (although I 
  24. don't think a feeling is ever quite eliminated, transformed perhaps,
  25. but not eliminated).  If anything, anthropologist will be the least
  26. likely to treat a social or cultural convention with disdain.

  28. A cultural trait depends on it's context.  For example, the Yanamamo
  29. celebrate births, but if there is an imbalance of females to males,
  30. they have no problem with infanticide on the females, and in their 
  31. cultural context, this is more than reasonable to them.  (BTW, 
  32. since technological intrusions, this does not happen quite as often,
  33. although more diseases occur to kill off people.)>

  35. As for there being a reason, there is...this is only one conjecture BTW.
  36. When the number of women dying in childbirth, and the number of children
  37. dying in childbirth, it was (is) a wonder and a joy for life to be 
  38. present at that time.  Also, if you've ever been present during birth, 
  39. it is a wonderful experience to witness (although I've never fathered nor
  40. given birth, so my experience is limited to watching) and deserves 
  41. all the congrats.
