- The new Utne Reader (Jan/Feb 1993) has a collection of articles
- under the header "Men & Women Can we get along? Should we
- even try?"
-
- There are too many articles for me to start typing them in (besides
- copyright and the fact that Utne Reader has a login on Usenet) but
- I recommend the issue and look forward to any discussion.
-
- some of the articles are:
-
- Women & Men: Can We Get Along? .... Lawrence Wright (Texas Monthly)
- Clarence Thomas & Anita Hill, black men & black women ... Rebecca Walker
- It's A Jungle Out There, So Get Used To It! ... Camille Paglia
- The blue balls bluff ... Helen Cordes
- The Blame Game ... Sam Keen
- Can men and women just be friends? ... Abby Ellin (Boston Phoenix)
- Ending the War Between the Sexes .. Aaron R. Kipnis & Elizabeth Hingston
- A revisionist history of men and women .. Brenda Ueland
-
-
- There are also a number of sidebars from other publications. Some
- of the articles are incredibly one sided while others try to
- be even-handed. You will also learn that there are some radical
- people out there. One example:
-
- In the first article listed above he talks about Sally Gearhart
- who in 1982 advocate "ovular merging" which merges two human eggs
- to produce only female offspring, bring the ratio to 75/25 (female
- to male) in one generation. The author says "It's not genocide,
- exactly. It's more like job attrition, the way employers cut back
- positions without actually firing anyone." That's certainly a
- broadminded position.
-
- I'd be interested in any discussion we can get going on these
- articles.
