- (long (but interesting! =))
-
- Having read your newsgroup for several days now, it seems to me that y'all
- just post like frenzied demons, so I thought I'd start a thread and see what
- happens.
-
- Disclaimer: To my knowledge, I've been hardwired as a heterosexual male.
- My writing style is erratic, prone to personal embellishments and quirks
- based on mood and moment (for example, I think I'm in a somewhat long
- worded phase right now, so bear with me).
-
- Bi-related material:
- I've noticed in the heterosexual male world an occasional fascination
- with the bisexual woman (forgive the longhand, but the abbreviations are so
- commonplace as to make the written out versions refreshing), ranging from
- 'not having a problem with', to extreme interest or desireability. I've seen
- evidence of such just a few days ago, from an anonymous posting, on this
- very newsgroup, and also in highly praised literature. I read a lot of SF,
- and occasionally bisexuality becomes part of the plot. Take for example
- Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land", in which a sexual liberation
- occurs through all the main characters. Oddly enough, though all the female
- characters don't have much of a problem with the new communal sex structure,
- there is a noticeable reaction and avoidance of any M-M sex in the book,
- almost as if, in the process of writing a radical book for his time, Heinlein
- wasn't willing to go beyond the more 'socially acceptical aberation' of
- bi-fems explicitly.
- Fritz Leiber does a bit of this too, noticeably in his later books
- of the Fafhrd and Grey Mouser swords and socery saga. There is a passage in
- the last book that goes like this, wherein the Mouser, an accidental voyuer
- to lesbianish activity thinks to himself (Cif and Afreyt are F's and GM's SO's):
-
- "But one certainly cannot fault the little darlings for their
- occasional itch for eachother, since their taste is so exactly
- like my own. Strange, come to think of it, that Fafhrd and I have
- never seemed to experience this like-sex urge. Is it a deficiency
- in us? I must discuss the question with him some time. And with
- Cif too, for that matter, ask her if she and Afreyt ever played
- games . . . no, maybe not ask, I could understand Afreyt lusting
- for Cif, but not dear Ciffy for that beanpole Venus."
-
- F and GM never have that conversation, but Cif and Afreyt do admit
- 'off camera' so to speak, about that one incident when they were young . . .
-
- There are other examples, but I think I've made my point. Perhaps
- all this is merely male 'extensioning' into the female psyche . . . the
- fact that it is desireable behavior is due to the duplication factor--females
- having the same desires as the man does, perhaps helping to bridge the
- mysterious gap between male and female, adding a sense of 'camaraderie'
- and understanding in a less than usual way.
-
- But I don't see how any of this makes a difference unless there is
- a polyamorous side to the story, wherein the male is allowed to experience
- the bi-femme behavior first hand. Otherwise, the bi side of the female
- would remain a mysterious part of the woman, and instead of, for example,
- cooperation in trying to win the favors of another bi-fem, there would
- be an odd competition . . . ;). And from here it gets rather complicated,
- as if it hadn't already.
-
- So what do y'all think? As far as myself goes, I have only read the
- words and thoughts the thoughts, never really talking the talk or especially
- not walking the walk. I figure net.posting is somewhere between thinking and
- talking . . .
-
- Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas, and have a Merry New Year!
- (alt.religions-hope you had a nice Dec. 25th!)
