  17. consciously crossposted, but this topic is 
  18. serendipitous (and gratuitous) in sci.physics, 
  19. and has long been of interest to me. I'd love
  20. to see the answer (the old OED is a tainted 
  21. source on this topic, and I have not seen the
  22. new one) without having to read those other 
  23. groups. In the foreknowledge that it is easier
  24. to obtain forgiveness than permission, then...

  37. the gullible marks from whom they extract (or
  38. yank) their ill-gotten tribute. Yankees (and
  39. they proliferate here in Canada, too) continue
  40. to pay their taxes without complaint for fear
  41. the Yankers will deem them illiberal otherwise,
  42. the greatest sin of our age.
