  34. Unfortunately, I am sure there is "interest in this".  But I hope both
  35. Dale Bass and Jack Sarfatti might restrain themselves and set a good
  36. example for others by using these precious (or expensive) electrons,
  37. minutes, and exertions of mind to discuss the interesting physics that
  38. appeared to be a rarely interesting thread aborning, and set aside for
  39. the moment their (or, rather, Gardner's) opinions on Sarfatti's
  40. character and whatnot.

  44. Yes, Roger I agree with you. Henceforth, I suggest that the history of
  45. the physics elite's involvment with Werner Erhard etc be posted to
  46. sci.conspiracy rather than sci.physics.

  48. I agree with the person who pointed out that Dale Bass is an agent
  49. provocateur in that he, more than anyone else, it was claimed, responded
  50. to Abian and made him into Frankenstein etc.

  52. For the record I am not against a moderated sci.physics.research and
  53. volunteer to be one of the moderators (though not for my own stuff) I
  54. am quite capable of being objective e.g., my call to Budnik to explain his
  55. "delays" more clearly.

  57. I still challenge the conventional guys to explain , according to standard
  58. QM what happens when an electron is passed through a Stern-Gerlach magnet,
  59. a spin-flip coil in one path turned on and then the two paths recombined
  60. by a second Stern Gerlach magnet into one path - what is the proper
  61. description of the output state given a pure input state? Similarly, for
  62. a photon with polarizing beam splitters and a half wave plate in one path.
  63. This experiment is key to seeing whehter quantum mechanics really is unitary
  64. in the complete sense , or whether it allows a minimal "off-diagonal"
  65. violation of unitarity that still conserves probability. The question is, is
  66. the output state a pure state if the input is pure, or is it a mixed state
  67. due to correlations with the photon field in the spin-flip coil etc.
