- Well, I can't comment on OSHA - if they feel it is necessary to use
- masks in ER - it is a non-controlled environment in terms of hygiene and
- optimal conditions.
-
- For people with TB, unless they are actively coughing up sputum with
- large amounts TB bacilli in them, it is not usually very infectious.
- Remember Camille? Armand would probably have been exposed to the bacillu
- but that does not mean he would get TB. The person's immunity is an
- important factor in the disease.
-
- If your friends are feeling cheerful and fairly well, it probably would
- not hurt to drop by.
-
- BTW, 6 month treatment of TB is actually considered a shorter form of
- treatment. Since TB is endemic here, the traditional 1.5 to 2 year
- treatment was used for a long time since there was so much relapse with
- shorter regimes. However, because of problems with compliance and better
- drugs, especially rifampicin, shorter regimes are now used. It is still
- very important to complete treatment. Aborted treatment is probably a
- factor in multiply-drug resistant TB bacillus which is not a good thing
- to have around for endemic TB countries.
