- There is no aluminum in ordinary solder. Solder is a mixture of lead
- and tin, with occasionally small amounts of other materials (copper,
- silver, etc) incorporated to alter the working properties of the solder.
-
- Of course lead and tin can contain contaminants such as cadmium,
- arsenic, and the like, and the less-critical solders such as those used
- in plumbing will not have the high purity of precision electronic solders.
-
- As I understand it, most of the known dangers in soldering come from
- the fumes from the lead and contaminants, and from the various fluxes
- used to assist the soldering process.
-
- "Silver-solder" is really more of a brazing material than a solder.
