- In these statistics, it is also important to distinguish income
- from pay. In any profession with highly paid members, their
- average income will be quite a bit above their average pay
- because many are able to save and invest a significant portion of
- their *pay* early in their life and enjoy *income* from this
- investment later in their life. Thus, many physicians,
- engineers, and lawyers who are over fifty have incomes that are
- significantly greater (sometimes many times greater) than the
- salary they command.
