  29.    Who's claim that the earth has warmed up several degrees? The
  30. instrumental record shows warming of about 1C over the last one
  31. hundred years. However, this warming has not been a simple linear
  32. one: there was warming until the 1930s, then cooling until 1970 or so,
  33. followed by further warming. The overall increase of 1C is consistent 
  34. with the increase in CO2, but could also be due to a number of other
  35. factors, so very few people actually state that the cause of the
  36. warming is CO2.

  38.   Of course, I have to add the usual caveat that these are the *global*
  39. trends that I am talking about, with significant local variations on
  40. the theme to be expected.
