- MINNESOTA WINDPOWER
- SEES BRISK SALES
-
- Minnesota Windpower is now building one of its 35-kW turbines per
- week, according to company founder Dan Juhl. Fifteen of the
- redesigned Century turbines are now operating in southwestern
- Minnesota. They join five Danish Wind World turbines recently
- dedicated by Governor Arne Carlson that were also erected by
- Minnesota Windpower.
-
- Construction is nearly complete on the company's new building in
- Marshall, Minn., Juhl said, adding that he hopes to begin
- assembling not only the 35-kW turbine in the new structure, but
- also Wind World turbines to meet contracts for new capacity from
- Midwestern utilities.
-
- Juhl expects to bid on a 5-MW contract with Northern States Power
- for installation by September 1993. He's also expecting to close
- a deal with Iowa Electric of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 15 MW of
- effective capacity. To activate the contract, Juhl said, he will
- install 10 Danish WindMatic 15S turbines currently in California.
- After installation of the WindMatics, Minnesota Windpower will
- begin assembling Wind World 250-kW turbines to build out the
- remainder of the contract, Juhl said.
-
- Though the integral drive train for the Wind World 26-meter (85-
- foot) machine will continue to be built in Denmark, Juhl plans to
- mount U.S.-built generators on the turbine in Marshall. Minnesota
- Windpower will use Zond's controller and also plans to source the
- 40-meter (131-foot) tubular towers in the U.S.
-
- Minnesota Windpower expects to install two of the Wind World
- turbines this year for at a consolidated school in Spirit Lake,
- Iowa. Spirit Lake is the southernmost extension of Buffalo Ridge,
- a physiographic feature that has attracted international attention
- for its high winds (see "Minnesota Continues to Document Wind
- Potential," Wind Energy Weekly #436, February 18, 1991, p. 5).

- For those of you who have not previously seen excerpts from back issues
- on Usenet or Bitnet, the _Weekly_ reports on the outlook for renewable
- energy, energy-related environmental issues, and renewable energy
- legislation in addition to wind industry trade news. The electronic
- edition normally runs about 10kb in length.
-
- If you would like a free electronic subscription, send me an e-mail
- request. Please include information on your position, organization,
