- I've measured several 286 and 386 machines with a wattmeter. The
- average power consumption is about 60 watts at idle (no disk
- seeking) and about 10 watts more whille the disk is seeking.
- Monitors draw about 60 to 100 watts depending on how much of the
- screen is illuminated. So figure worst case 160 watts if you leave
- the monitor on all the time (not an especially good idea).
-
- Presuming electricity goes for about 10 cents per KWH, That would
- be $11.91 in a 31 day month. If you shut the monitor off for all
- but four hours a day, your cost would be about $5.71 per month.
