- I think you will find that the chip is bonded directly to the PC board,
- and is not packaged in a DIL pack with pins. The PCB tracks are then bonded
- to the chip with very thin wires (like those used to bond the chip to the
- package in a DIL packaged device) and the whole thing is protected by a
- glob of epoxy to keep out contaminants, fingers etc. This method is often
- used in cheap calculators, watches etc. to save space and money.
