  15.         From what I have seen in usenet (as well as bars, clubs and
  16.         social history), the only way to successfully partition
  17.         sci.crypt will be for those with the incentive to make the
  18.         move to make it. (Do the groups with the most dots in their
  19.         names represent the frontiers of the cyberverse?)

  21.         Making a sci.crypt.research|theory group will give the Verner
  22.         Von Braun segment (vunz ze rockets go up, who cares verr zey
  23.         komm down?) a place to have mature scientific discussions
  24.         without interruptions from the real world. :-)

  26.         It would seem appropriate for one of the mature scientists to
  27.         paddle a RFD down to news.groups.

  30.         I'm not sure who used the word, but "hobbyist" is not the
  31.         only alternative to "scientist" and it's an inappropriate
  32.         discount. There are a bunch of us non-specialists here who
  33.         have a serious professional interest in the _application_ of
  34.         cryptography. You may recognise us as the people who
  35.         ultimately provide the justification for your cryptology by
  36.         providing a context for your cryptography. For us, the
  37.         politics and logistics are just as important as the science
  38.         and, without us, cryptology papers are write-only memory.

  41.         I hope the specialists will continue to hang around to discuss
  42.         these issues, whether or not a new group is formed. Maybe we
  43.         can all make a New Year's Resolution to leave the guns and
  44.         pederasts out of it.
