  31.     I should have written talk.politics.crypt, but let's find
  32.     out if YAG (yet another group) is going to resolve the basic
  33.     problem:

  35.     talk.politics.crypt is just a narrower debate in the larger
  36.     freedom of thoughts/speech debate which is well covered in
  37.     alt.* and talk.politics.*.  This would militate against the
  38.     creation of YAG, but it favors posting elsewhere.

  40.     We may dislike the "pollution" of our forum by "unscientific"
  41.     threads, but the debate is relevant to the subject since
  42.     cryptography is so politically charged, and it is important
  43.     to us since it may affect our right to exchange ideas on the
  44.     subject, in this very same "sci" forum.  So, maybe we should
  45.     not have YAG and maybe we should stick to sci.crypt.

  47.     Maybe we could ENCOURAGE the philosophers and politicians to
  48.     use the "Followup-To:" header so the thread can move by itself
  49.     to the proper grounds.  There would - I am sure - be nothing
  50.     wrong in x-posting the initial piece in sci.crypt, if only
  51.     to alert us to the existence of a possibly interesting thread
  52.     in a talk or alt group.  Screaming about being "sick and tired"
  53.     and advocating moderation (if not outright policing) is not
  54.     sustainable.  Pretending that our "talkers" are just blathering
  55.     is downright stupid.  Finally, treating the "talkers" as if they
  56.     had no right to talk is not productive either.  We all have a "n"
  57.     key as well as a kill file.  Let's use them.  No need for YAG
  58.     if we do.  Maybe.

  60.     Since we are talking about "talkers", I should mention that
  61.     I have a real interest in both the political impacts of
  62.     cryptography and its scientific aspects; I am however not
  63.     too keen on sifting through the noisier groups just to find
  64.     a few rare items of very specialized interest.  Therefore,
  65.     the creation of YAG may be a good compromise to satisfy
  66.     the need for an open debate on a subject that sorely needs
  67.     it without exposing the reader to low signal to noise ratii,
  68.     and it will help reduce the unscientific contents of the sci
  69.     group.  As to the idea of moving our tents every time we don't
  70.     like the new neighbours, it penalizes those who move...
