  22. Yes, this is undoubtedly true.  However, I would argue that your
  23. nationalistic claims are foolish and short-sighted.  The laws
  24. you support reduce the long-term competetiveness of US cryptography
  25. (as has been pointed out by other posters).

  27. Furthermore, you make light of Mr. Gardner's apt comparison of boots
  28. to cryptography.  Perhaps an even better one, then, is medical knowledge.
  29. Medical knowledge, equipment, and drugs save far more lives than
  30. cryptography, yet I don't see anyone suggesting that they be called
  31. 'munitions' and banned.  Immunizing soldiers has probably reduced 
  32. war-related deaths more than any other single advance in human knowledge, 
  33. but yet this is not classified as sensitive data.  By your argument, 
  34. it should be kept secret even from our own citizens and not 
  35. released for public use long after the rest of the world has its 
  36. advantages.

  39. a long way to go.
