  12. My colleagues and I are interested in preparing carbon-14 labeled
  13. chloral (trichloroacetaldehyde) and/or the hydrate thereof.  We seek
  14. a procedure for the preparation of pure material with a specific
  15. activity of approx. 50 mCi/mmole for metabolic studies.  Unfortunately,
  16. our technical library is somewhat lacking in appropriate chemical
  17. literature.

  19. The position of the radiolabel is not critical, though it is preferable
  20. to have it in the C-2 position.

  22. Ah...and if we can do it without having to use chlorine gas, it would 
  23. be nice!  :)

  25. Should anyone have a workable procedure for the synthesis of chloral, I
  26. would be very happy to hear it.  Many thanks in advance!
