- We are investigating the optical properties of derivatives of
- phthalimide:

- where R in this case is a halogenated biphenyl. In published
- data tables (CRC Atlas of Spect. Data and Phys. Const. for
- Org. Comp., #p1391), phalimide shows no uv absorption
- above 291nm. However, we have observed a luminescence
- with excitation/emission maxima at 350/410 nm.
