- Something I've wanted for a long time is a beginners-level list of
- the major classes of solvents, along with the types of things they're
- good for and what's dangerous about them. Something like:
-
- acetone
- Good for nail polish.
- Don't sniff.
- light saturated hydrocarbons (kerosene, gasoline, peanut oil)
- Good for grease (heavy hydrocarbons).
- Good for adhesive tape residue.
- Don't sniff.
- methyl-ethyl-ketone
- Good for ???.
- Don't get on skin.
- chlorine bleach
- May not actually remove contaminants, but makes them colorless.
- Don't mix with ???, gives off chlorine.
- hydrogen peroxide
- Similar to bleach, but doesn't give off chlorine.
- hydrofluoric acid
- Good for etching glass.
- Avoid all contact.
-
- Has anyone ever come across anything like this? If not maybe we
- should create it. Feel free to post of mail additions / corrections
- and I'll post periodic snapshots.
