  14. Daily comet ephemerides for the period: Monday, 1993 Jan. 18 - 25, 0 h UT
  15. (Universal Time). Due to e-mail problems the posting of the five different
  16. ephemerides has to be made on three days. All known comets are included in the
  17. list which meet the following criteria: the minimum elongation to the sun has
  18. to exceeds 15 degrees, the minimum distance to the earth has to be lower than
  19. 0.15 astronomical units (A.U.) and the limiting magnitude of the comet is
  20. brighter than 15.5 mag.
  21.  
  22. Please note, that magnitude predictions for comets tend to be very inaccurate,
  23. thus comets may actually be fainter or brighter than given! Also remember that
  24. comets are diffuse objects. Thus, a comet with a magnitude of 12 mag may be
  25. only observable if the faintest stars visible in your telescope are 14 mag or
  26. fainter. Try first low power for very diffuse comets and than switch to high
  27. powers for more condensated ones. Comet filter may increase comet visibility in
  28. many but not in all cases.

  30. The position are given for 1950.0 and 2000.0. The elements of the orbits are
  31. from the latest MPC or from a more recent IAUC. A list of the used elements is
  32. given at the end of the ephemerides.

  176. The name is the same as in the ephemerides, but a littlebit shorter. 'Perihel.
  177. T' is the perihelion date as year, month and day. 'Perih.q' is the perihelion
  178. distance q in astronomical units. 'Eccentr e' is the eccentricity of the orbit.
  179. 'Perihel', 'Node' and 'Inclin.' are these three orbit angles in degrees. H is
  180. the magnitude of the object in 1 A.U. from the sun and the earth, G is the
  181. factor in the calculation of the objects brightness V = H + 5*log(d) +
  182. 2.5*G*log(r). These orbital element list is only for an overview, which orbit I
  183. used. For well-known objects the accuracy of the published original elements
  184. may be some digits better than given here.

  187. Explanations of the columns in the ephemerides:
  188. Name of object    The name of the object. A [P/] before the name of the object
  189.                   means a periodic comet with a period around the sun of lower
  190.                   than 200 years. If the comet have received a final [Fin]
  191.                   designation, it's the name of the year with a roman number in
  192.                   bracketts. If it's a provisional designation [Pro] the number
  193.                   of the year is following by a lower letter, also in
  194.                   bracketts. For more than 26 comets in a year, a running
  195.                   number is in the appendix.
  196. Rect(1950)Decl    The rectascension in hours and time minutes and the
  197.                   declination in degrees and arc minutes for 1950.0.
  198. Rect(2000)Decl    The rectascension in hours and time minutes and the
  199.                   declination in degrees and arc minutes for 2000.0.
  200. r                 The distance of the comet to the sun in A.U.
  201. d                 The distance of the comet to the earth in A.U.
  202. Elo               The elongation of the comet to the sun in degrees.
  203. Magn              The magnitude of the comet in magnitude steps.
  204. MotioPos          The motion of the comet in arc seconds/hour and the position
  205.                   angle of the motion (from north, over east, south and west
  206.                   back to north, 0..360 degrees).
