-
- I received my new 93 ecstasy Dec. 22 (thanks santa!) and since then I have had
- three superb wavesailing sessions with it. (with a 4.7, 4.2 and then fully
- overpowered on a 3.7) with good waves for the french riviera (6' but not
- powerful).
-
- I was very happy with it. It handles superbly in small waves, which I
- expected (I tried the 92 model in small waves before), but it also handled very
- well overpowered conditions with medium waves (in fact the biggest I have seen
- at our Cannes spot in the french riviera), which I thought could be more
- problematic since it is quite wide and has not the huge scoop rocker seen on
- the latest wave boards. (although it has a modern, very thin nose)
-
- In fact I was totally amazed by its ease of use: with it I was able to
- waterstart in a hurry after a fall in the impact zone, while with all my other
- wave boards I had to be careful not to pearl or bury a rail when waterstarting
- in a hurry, with the ecstasy, it seems you cannot fall! Same for manoeuvers in
- the foam, it is remarkably stable, and you punch through the surf in a breeze.
- Also I never pearled, seems that although it does not have lots of rocker, its
- placement is carefully thought out - no flat spots - and you have exactly what
- you need. And this low rocker means added speed during rollers, something you
- get addicted to very quickly! And it safety means that you can get very
- radical, with this added feeling of confidence thrown in...
-
- So in a word, this board is GREAT!!! (it may be a bit too floaty for light
- people, I weight nearly 200lbs). I could not go back to my more "radical"
- sandwich wave board, even if the ecstasy is 4lbs more heavy... Try one if you
- can (except if you live in perfect places where you never have to go upwing and
- have big, powerful well lined up waves every session). I was consitently going
- 10 to 20 degrees more upwind than people with recent waveboards (from a local
- shaper "tabou" shaping for a lot of world cup racers), which is invaluable on
- onshore sailing spots
-
- Two minor nitpicks:
- 1) the antiskid was great when new, but is starting to loose its efficiency...
- No big deal, some epoxy+sugar will correct this.
- 2) I would have liked a "powerbox"-type of finbox, once you get used to the
- convenience of this system on slalom boards you want it on all your boards
-
- Note that Tiga has corrected these two points on its 93 wave boards: they have
- a wave version of the powerbox (less depth) and they have a giant pad on all
- the straps aera.
