- re: high-pitched sound on Sony TVs
-
- I have seen two cases where a Sony set emitted the annoying high-pitched
- whine which apparently was caused by the picture tube vibrating against the
- plastic bezel.
-
- The whine is at the horizontal sweep frequency, over 15 kHz, so many people
- can't hear it. but those who do generally find it quite annoying.
-
- In the sets I saw, it seemed that the front surface of the picture tube was
- vibrating against the plastic, right at the edge of the viewing area. By
- stuffing a tiny rectangle of paper between the CRT face and the bezel at the
- top of the screen, I was able to completely eliminate the sound.
-
- There are many other possible sources of this same frequency vibration, but
- this worked for me in 2 cases so you might try it. Press against the plastic
- bezel with your fingers in various locations while the noise is occurring, and
- see if you can cause it to stop.
-
