- Unfortunately, Steve, the translators in Canberra have a lot of
- hills and mountains to deal with... and they are exactly that:
- translators. According to the fellow at NTA that I spoke with
- some months back, they receive normal VHF/UHF signals from Black
- Mountain Tower, and faithfully reproduce all the dreck and
- ghosting that they receive, adding a little more noise on the
- way. Depressing. :-(
-
- Mount Taylor or Tuggeranong Hill translator?
-
- As I understand it, the roof may be creating some interesting
- ground-plane effects... but it's been a long time since I
- thought such esoteric thoughts. The delay between the antenna
- and roof at 2m should not be visible, if memory serves.
- I'm not sure if horizontal polarization will affect it.
- Buildings and the Brindabellas most certainly do :-(
-
- The ghosts I receive are multiple - over ten of them, some
- negative, some positive, trailing away to the right and even
- rolling around right-to-left. I have a high-gain 43-element
- Band-5 UHF antenna, and NOTHING, but NOTHING will exorcise those
- damn ghosts! It is worst on VHF3->UHF 54 (ABC), but the others are
- affected to a lesser extent.
-
- How does one get rid of ghosts that are in the signal to begin with?
-
- Perhaps some grass-roots political action is indicated? The
- ghosts and outages are getting on my nerves. What we need,
- given that the marjority of the population lives in Tuggeranong,
- is a decent landline, or even better, DBS. Don't hold your
- breath!

- If you get any leads, get back to me. I'm in the book.
