- | Is there some comparative chart for the specs for normal TV, SVHS and HDTV ?
- | And what about the comparison between NTSC, PAL and SECAM ?
-
- For NTSC,
-
- Normal TV broadcasting has upto 330 lines of horizontal resolution.
- VHS 220
- BetaI?,II about 300
- SVHS/Hi8 400
- LD 425
- EDBeta 500
-
- Monitor TVs like Sony XBR, has potential to project 600~800 lines.
-
- NTSC is American TV standard, PAL is an Europian standard, and
- SECAM is Socialists' standard. I'm afraid that HDTV follows this
- chaos. Japan introduced first HDTV system `Hi-Vision' in early 80s
- to unify HDTV; it doesn't have any big compatibility to every TV
- standards but has possibilities to convert from any TV standrads
- at less memoies totally and many constants are conducted from
- ergonomics.... But most easy way to upgrade TV is to just twice
- the number of lines. To say, it's the Tower of Babel!
-
- NTSC is 60 FPS, composed of 525 scan lines(Not all scan lines are shown).
- PAL 50 625
- SECAM 50 625
-
- Hi-Vision
- 60 1125
-
- And, there are many varieties.
-
- | Are SVHS and S-video the same things ? i.e. If I have an SVHS camcorder, I
- | can plug it into the S-video connection on my TV right ? As far as I know,
- | S-video has seperate chrominance and luminance lines, but how does this
- | enable higher resolutions ?
-
- There are many ways to convey color video signal. Easiest way is to
- complex chroma and lumina -- like TV broadcasting and RCA yellow plug,
- using composite video signal. Another way is to use component signal.
- A S-video connecter has 2 sockets, one for chroma, one for lumina.
- This is good for improving picture. (The BEST way is RGB digital connect)
- Complexing signals is no good: Uncomplexing needs filters, and
- filtering does harm. (Try S sources like Hi8 camera recorded video
- on your TV by S-video connected! This WILL take you to the
- Hi-definition video world; To see is to believe)
-
- AND, there's no relationship between S-VHS and HDTV so far.
