- You're wrong. Laser discs offer 425 lines of resolution. Comparatively
- the same as S-VHS. People buy laser discs primarily for the picture and
- sound quality, as well as the durability. Also, most movies are now
- being offered on laser in their original aspect ratio ("Letterboxed" or
- "widescreen") which is a big plus to anyone who REALLY cares about
- watching a movie the way it was INTENDED to be seen. As for your comment
- about laser discs not dominating BECAUSE they don't record: it's rather
- flawed. CDs are a HUGE market and you can't record on THOSE can you?

- You're right about the tape ITSELF outliving several VCRs (I can
- attest to that), but tapes get eaten accidentally, they get dropouts,
- the dynamic range in color and sound is not even close to a laser disc.
- TRUST ME on this, I've been collecting movies for many years, and until
- I got my LD player in 1989, I was very disappointed in the quality of
- videotapes, but at the time it was all you could get until LDs started
- picking up again in 1988.

- It's amazing that YOUR tapes look as good as they did 10 years ago, and
- my local video store's tapes look like absolute shit. Really, you get the
- usual rolling lines for 3-5 minutes which show that the tpae has been
- eaten, worn, and generally misused. I never found a VHS tape that looked
- as good as a laser disc and never, NEVER will.

- And our laser discs will live longer than that :)
