  11. I just bought a Sony FX410 from Circuit City for $800.  They've got
  12. a 30 day return policy so I can still look at some other options.
  13. This amount of money was about my limit.  It seems like I could have
  14. gotten it for a couple hundred less mail-order but I'm a little worried
  15. about service.  I've not read any reviews of this particular model so
  16. I'm interested in anyone's comments.  I picked the Sony over similarly
  17. priced RCA models because the indoor performance seemed better in the
  18. store (same tape and monitor) and it has a 10:1 zoom.  I'll be using
  19. the camera to film my baby (arrives April) and sports events (mostly
  20. cycling).  I do have some video experience but not too recently.

  22. There is a "Control L" jack on the camera.  I also have a Mitsubishi
  23. 4-head Hi-fi VCR but without jog/shuttle control.  It does have an edit
  24. jack in the back.  Is there an inexpensive editing controller that will
  25. connect these two machines?  How about sound dubbing?

  27. I need a tripod.  Ideally I'd like one that I can take backpacking so it
  28. doesn't have to be super small but should be pretty light.  A head that
  29. tilts 90 degrees for still photography would be nice too.  I like the
  30. Bogen heads but the ones I've seen are awfully heavy (probably heavier
  31. than the camcorder).  Budget is of some priority here.  How about the
  32. body-stabilizers for sports and a cheap tripod for stationary work?

  34. Any other general recommendations for someone who is just getting into
  35. video (but does have some film and still experience)?  Any good dealers
  36. in DC area?  Books or magazines?
